Marginal cord insertion

Marginal cord insertion occurs when the umbilical cord attaches to the placenta at the margins instead of the centre. This can lead to some complications for the baby, most commonly intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR). There isn’t a known cause or prevention and while it may require extra ultrasounds, it generally doesn’t affect your care or birth choices, as detailed in the stories here.
